Tell us the story of a piece of jewelry you own. Where did it come from, and what does it mean to you?

I have 4 pairs of earrings that were given to me by an old man that looks like Santa Claus, who is so sweet to me. I see him every couple of months or so at bead shows and whenever he goes and he knows I’ll be there, he always brings me a pair of earrings that he and/or his wife handmade. Just to be nice. I don’t even really know the name of this man (shame on me!) but he’s always pleasant with me.

He reminds me a little bit of myself, in that he’s very thoughtful and giving, and he hardly even knows me. I tend to do the same thing with people. I like making or buying things for people, whether it be cooking meals, baking breads and cakes, buying tiny things that remind me of those certain people or just things that they needed or mentioned before.

What do the earrings mean to me? Well, whenever I wear them I always think about how total strangers can do nice things for you, that there are people like that that exist. The earrings make me feel appreciated and it’s just a wonderful feeling to know that someone cared enough to take some time out of their schedule to specifically think about me and make something for me. Even moreso when I find out he uses sterling silver, pearls, and materials which aren’t cheap to begin with. For example, one pair of earrings he gave me, he was selling it at their store for $70! And he gave it to me for free, nothing in exchange.

So it’s been quite a while since I’ve blogged or even posted a photo for Project 365. I’m going to participate in this year’s NaBloPoMo in order to make more use of this domain. Here’s to blogging every single day in November! *crosses fingers*

Since it’s Music Monday today, here’s Cee-Lo Green’s “Fuck You”

I was in Long Island today, with dad driving, so I was able to take some pics off my phone.

These pics were taken on our way home. This one below, we were driving past LaGuardia Airport. I thought that sun rays coming through the clouds were beautiful, and a plane about to land is right in the middle of it.

This next one is a view of Manhattan, you can clearly see the Empire State Building. I also like the sun rays highlighting it.

This final one is of the Brooklyn Bridge. Well, a part of it anyway. Such an iconic structure.

It was so lovely out, about 90 degrees! These flowers were beautiful, resting in the shade while everyone else sweated their butts off. Anyone know what type of flowers these are?

It was my 2?th birthday today and I’m so glad to say that it was a good one :)  All throughout the day I received birthday greetings from more people than I expected, which makes me really happy, because no one likes to be forgotten on their birthdays.

For my birthday dinner, we went to IchiUmi, a sushi/seafood buffet. Quite expensive, but well worth the money!

Afterwards, went back home, where my sis and b-i-l met up with us, to have my mocha-flavored birthday cake, pictured above. My awesome Papa bought it for me this afternoon as a surprise :)

After the singing and cutting and eating cake, the siblings and I went to the movies to watch Clash of the Titans in 3D. It was a treat from my sis and b-i-l, and they also gave me a $30 B&N gift card! I already know what that gift card is going towards lol

I also got snail mail birthday cards and packages from a couple of online friends, which were a real treat to find in my mailbox yesterday :) I’m so used to emails and digital versions of things these days that  receiving cards in the mail was like a breath of fresh air.

Overall, it was a fantastic birthday, with love from family and friends. I couldn’t ask for anything more.

I decided I needed to try out new beading stitches after finishing my liquid metal bracelet. Someone taught me the Russian Spiral stitch two weeks ago and the above bracelets are my first two results. They definitely didn’t take as long as the other ones I’ve been making because it’s a narrow, tubular type. I think they’re pretty cute and spring-y. I’ll have to try out this stitch using Swarovski crystals next time.

This liquid metal looking beauty is all mine! It’s wider than the previous ones I made (sis & mom) because I found the awesome silver clasp that I thought would look awesome for this type of bracelet. Since it’s for me, I decided to put in a few Swarovski crystals as well :)
